ROADS
The total Road length in Howrah of different width and different characteristics is approximately 300 km. Data goes on increasing after new construction as and when required with due sanction from MMIC, HMC / Govt. of WB.
Major Roads of Howrah Municipal Corporation area are maintained by Central Roads Department and branch roads and lanes are maintained by the local Borough Offices. There are mainly bituminous, concrete paved, brick-paved, stone-set and jhama-consolidated roads within Howrah Municipal Corporation area. Some major roads are repaired from the central Hot-Mix Plant by the Central Road Gang.

SURVEY
All the major assets of the Municipal Corporation are maintained including parks and gardens. Sanctions of hoarding boards and advertisement kiosks are given by Survey Department. In case of encroachment of Municipal Roads and drains the Survey Departments take up regular drives to clear them. Puja permission on municipal roads are given by this Department. WATER SUPPLY The Water Supply of HMC is from Padmapukur Waterworks which supplies about {40 + 30(new)} 70 MG per day to the wards 1 - 44. The rest of the wards are supplied by KMW&SA through deep tubewells. There are three underground reservoirs (UGR)s located at Kona Expressway, Salkia and Belgachia while that of Tikiapara would be put into operation very soon.
For new connections or ferrule cleaning, pipe changing and site shifting including leakages of distribution mains the Concerned Borough Offices may be contacted.
For major breakdown, the Assistant Engineer (Water Supply) or Plant Superintendent (Padmapukur) may be contacted.
SEWERAGE & DRAINAGE
About one-third of Howrah city is covered by municipal sewer lines which includes both septic-sewer and combined sewer. There are two treatment plants 1. Low cost Sewerage Treatment Plant at Kona(Bally); 2. High cost STP at Arupara in ward 49.
The combined sewer of Central Howrah are collected at drainage pumping station situated in Icchapur.
The Storm Water of North Howrah is collected and pumped from the Pumping Station near Hanuman Hospital, J.N. Mukherjee Road and sent via Force Mains to Pocha Khal and finally to Kona STP. These pumping stations and STPs are maintained by KMW&SA and was constructed under the GAP Scheme by them.
The City of Howrah has been divided by the Railway tracks mainly Eastern and South-Eastern Railways. The drainage has been developed accordingly. The sullage collected from North Howrah is sent to Kona STP where as that of Central and parts of South Howrah are sent to Arupara STP. Central Howrah is mainly drained by Howrah Drainage Canal consisting mainly of a double barrel drain up to South Eastern railway culvert Noi. 6 in ward 44.
The total length of drains of different sections is approximately 600 km. while that of sewers if approximately 65 km. (subject to change)

Electrical Department
The Lighting System of Howrah Municipal Corporation consists of street lights under Borough I - V. These lighting system is maintained by different agency such as CESC Ltd., WBSEDCL, KMDA, HIT and HMC. Street Lights are installed by Howrah Municipal Corporation is shown here under.
