 • INTRODUCTION

Since 1984 the people of Howrah have supported the Howrah Municipal Corporation to increase revenue to help the Corporation to sustain its efforts in the continuous development processes in Howrah.

 Now the Howrah Municipal Corporation feels the urge to provide the people of Howrah with more effective services through improved quality of service and efficient and transparent administration.

 The Howrah Municipal Corporation feels the compulsion to develop a more friendly relationship between the employees and citizens of Howrah. And the Howrah Municipal Corporation is doing all that it can to see that the people of Howrah get their fair share. The new millennium is here and the City of Howrah will awaken to a new beginning.

 To ensure such a relationship the Mayor-in-Council in its meeting on 9th June 2006 has adopted a series of reformatory proposals which are placed and adopted at the O. G. Meeting in June 2006. It came into effect on and from 8th February 2007.

3.0 EXPECTATION FROM THE CITIZENS

To help the Howrah Municipal Corporation serve the people of Howrah better, we expect the following from the citizens:

• Timely payment of Municipal Taxes & Rates

• Submission of application alongwith complete set of papers & documents

only as required by HMC Act & relevant Rules & Regulations in prescribed

forms & formats wherever necessary.

• Help us to maintain the city clean & healthy

• Help us to stop misuse of drinking water

• Make construction as per sanctioned plans only

• Help us in resisting illegal activities

• To submit completion notice in scheduled form and annexure after completion of the building within 15 days.

CONCLUSION

Now for a quite long time we have not concentrated for the development of our own organizational infrastructure. Now we feel the urge to strengthen ourselves to serve the people of Howrah better. In the process, we are contemplating on Business Process Engineering in the Howrah Municipal Corporation to implement adequate Economic Resource Planning by implementing latest software of e-governance/SAP/Baan.

So, we apprehend that in very near future the abovementioned time frame shall be made further stringent. We conclude by saying that the Howrah Municipal Corporation is for the people and of the people of Howrah and we also expect reciprocation from the people of Howrah also.
